FOR PHYSIOTHERAPISTS AND CLINICAL PRACTITIONERS

A CLEARER BRIDGE FROM REHABILITATION TO PERFORMANCE

MoveWell supports athletes who have completed the necessary clinical stage but still need to rebuild strength, fitness, confidence and sport-specific capacity before returning to full training or competition.

THE ATHLETE MAY BE CLEARED, BUT NOT YET FULLY PREPARED

Clinical rehabilitation may restore function, reduce symptoms and help an athlete reach important medical milestones. However, returning to sport may require additional strength, power, endurance, speed, confidence and exposure to higher training demands.

Without a clear next step, athletes may:

Return too quickly

Remain dependent on low-level rehabilitation exercises

Struggle to rebuild training fitness

Lose confidence under load

Move into random gym training

Experience poor communication between rehabilitation and performance coaching

WHEN MOVEWELL MAY BE THE RIGHT NEXT STEP

  • The athlete has completed the main clinical rehabilitation stage
  • The athlete has appropriate clearance for strength and conditioning
  • Basic function has returned, but sport capacity remains limited
  • The athlete needs progressive gym-based loading
  • The athlete needs help returning to running, jumping or field work
  • The athlete needs to rebuild fitness after injury
  • The athlete requires a structured transition into team or competition training
  • The athlete needs ongoing strength and conditioning after discharge
  • The practitioner wants a trusted coach to continue the physical development process

Referral suitability should always depend on the athlete’s condition, current stage and the judgement of the responsible clinical practitioner.

A SIMPLE REFERRAL PATHWAY

1. REFER – The practitioner shares relevant information with the athlete’s knowledge and consent.

2. REVIEW – MoveWell reviews the athlete’s sport, current rehabilitation stage, restrictions and performance requirements.

3. ASSESS – The athlete completes a coaching and physical-capacity assessment within the agreed scope.

4. BUILD – A progressive strength and conditioning plan is created around clinical guidance and sport demands.

5. COMMUNICATE – Where agreed, MoveWell provides relevant progress updates and raises concerns when further clinical review may be required.
